The Silver Star
Before October 7, 2023
I was an ordinary Chevy pickup truck,
But after that day everything changed.
No one or thing will ever be the same.
This is my story: My owner is Moshe Sati.
He’s a devoted husband and father.

Am I my brother’s keeper
It must be so
For he is not mine
My dust stained boots
My broken spirit
My blood shed so easily
With his peace of mind
I am my brother’s keeper
For this day at least
But who will keep him
When I am gone
October 24th, 2024
It’s been a year of pain and words
The year has ended
The words have gone
But the pain won’t let us go
It’s been a year of waiting and praying
The year is over
Time goes on
But we stay the same
A year has gone by
But nothing has changed
The tears keep falling
Just like yesterday
The pain keeps calling
It won’t go away
October 1st, 2024
October now
October then
The time between
October rains
The ground still dry here
Nothing grows
October days
We never chose
September 22, 2024
We wished they were there
As we walked down the aisle
Holding new babies
Their hug and a smile
We mourned each their absence
At every new milestone
Knowing if we called
They wouldn’t answer the phone
At the corner of Kaplan and Ibn Gvirol,
you stand next to me waiting to cross,
a tower of olive with dust on your boots,
and I barely subdue a primal urge
to wrap my arms around you.

We should be worthy
They all say
Of your bravery
Of your sacrifice
Of the legacy you left behind
But really, we all know
We’d rather be worthy
Of your smile

I’ve wallowed in pain
I’ve dwelled in heartbreak
I’ve existed on breathing in agony and sorrow
But now
Not wallowing but drowning
July 8th, 2024
For months on end
My heart bleeding prose
Lyrics and phrases pushing their way
Through the cracks in my facade
