The Forgotten

You don’t care when our soldiers are killed.
You don’t care when our elderly are murdered.
You don’t care when our women are raped.
You don’t care when our men are brutally slaughtered.
You don’t care when our children are tortured.
You don’t care when our babies are executed.

You don’t care when our soldiers are held hostage.
You don’t care when our elderly are held hostage.
You don’t care when our men and women are held hostage.
You don’t care when our children are held hostage.
You don’t even care when our babies are held hostage.

All the pain
All the hurt
All the anguish
All the suffering
All the heartache and heartbreak.
It’s as if all of this does not exist.
It’s as if we too do not exist.

In spite of the noise
The tsunami of contradiction
A light continues to shine from within each and every one of us –
The forgotten.
This never-ending light will radiate.
Inextinguishable.
For love, hope, kindness and peace can never be forgotten.
Even in the shadows of the darkest night.
