He smiled and said goodbye
For what would be the last time
I wish that I had known
I would have held him for a while

She turned and walked away
With a laugh and a small wave
I wish that I had known
There was so much left to say

We always think we have more time
That tomorrow is always there
But our history says once again
We have more new pain to bear
Too much to bear

Daddy's watching me
From a place where I can't see
I wish that I had known
He'd never watch what I could be

What more is there to tell
Families living in this hell
I wish that I had known
I would have caught him as he fell

We wish that we had had more time
But still the dawn will break
And we'll stand together, in that light
In the future that we make
It's ours to take
