Remember what Amalek did to you on your journey out of Egypt.
But how could we forget?
Weak, starving, insecure, unprotected
Parched, dehydrated, thirsty
For water, yes – and so much more
Traveling across the desert
Barren wasteland filled with nothing
Endless exhaustion towards a half-believed promise.
He happened upon you and struck the weak at the rear
Life imitates art.
“Always watch your rear”
A line from a movie
“Eh tu, Brute?”
Shakespeare’s Caesar.
A stab in the back
Is not a novel concept,
And yet it never ceases to surprise,
Leave scars and fear
Wariness and weariness.
when you were tired and exhausted
But that’s to be expected
How long have we been traveling here,
This unending Groundhog Day
Same sand sameness
Hot blazing sun and blistered feet
he didn’t fear god
The strong and powerful never do.
They are above god
Above the law
Above all reproach
Above
When god gives you rest from all your enemies
A pipe dream
Enemies never truly rest
New ones appear
Like a bigger meaner boss
That requires more energy
More hearts
More gold coins
To defeat
in the land that god will give to you as an inheritance
They say the meek shall inherit the Earth.
What does that say about this promise
Of a land free of enemies and hatred and back-stabbing
Another pipe dream
How to fulfill this promise
Waiting to receive this land
This future
While also defending ourselves loudly
Proudly
Strong
To the last man
On the very day we were meant to be obliterated
Meekly forgotten
you shall wipe out the memory of Amalek
Is this our quest
To defend ourselves in the off chance
We will finally receive our promised land
And be free of back-stabbers
Forever
Wipe them out
Erase
Terminate
Exterminate
No matter how hopeless
For glory and god for all mankind for once and for all
Under our own vine and fig tree
Never forget
How could we?
No one ever truly forgets those who hurt them
While they aren’t looking
